Audience Participation: continuous optional audience participation – the audience is invited to participate in the rave at whatever level they feel comfortable, including dancing.
Flashing lights: lighting and video projection is most heavily flashing for our late night performances, whereas the matinees have a slower, more relaxed vibe including disco, gospel house, and chillhop. Use of moving lights, including a disco ball which can be disorienting for dancers.
Mature language: songs contain uncensored profanity. All mature language is in a comedic context, there are no depictions of hate speech or language targeting specific marginalized groups.
Sexual content: comedic sexual content, songs lyrics contain sexual content for a 14+ audience. Late night performances are more explicit, whereas matinee performances are lighter on the explicit content. Discussions of harm reduction safe sex practices and creating environments that are pro-consent.
Abrupt loud noise: songs contain abrupt drops and samples such as airhorns. Loud noise is continuous throughout. Disposable ear plugs are provided, and audience members are encouraged to bring their own ear protection.
Mental Health: RAVEMOMS discusses recreational substance use in community spaces, harm reduction around substance consumption, sobriety, safer sex practices, consent, isolation, disability, and community action. These topics are approached from the perspective of the artists’ shared lived experiences with the show’s content.
