Under the mountains you will find the mines, and in the mines you will find the hardworking dwarves. And in these mines, with Goldie and Tumble guiding you, you will find laughter, love and g-g-g-ghosts?!? Bring a flashlight (literally) because in this fantasy clown show we turn the lights off and leave the lighting to the audience.

  1. I had the absolute joy of seeing Dwarves in Dark Places by Owlbear Theatre last night, and it was so much fun! The playful performers Melissa & Jack were a perfect pair of charm and wit, pulling us all in and keeping us laughing from start to finish all thanks to the wonderfully fantastical and “vaguely Celtic” script from Ian!

With the clever use of flashlights, the audience becomes the third character! A perfect partner in this mischievous, clown inspired journey through the mountain! And definitely bring some cash, there’s some fun little souvenirs you’ll want to take home!

  2. This play styles itself a love letter to fantasy, and what a marvellously penned one it is. I was utterly enraptured the whole way through by the perfect clowning of our two dwarves, and by the beauty woven through that reminds us why we tell stories in the first place. The earnestness of the show was tempered with enough worldliness to leave me grinning from ear to and longing to roam the Skystep mountains myself.
Do yourself a favour and go and see this show.

  3. What a fun romp through the mountains, really great show. Light hearted, funny, and an overall good time. Highly recommend.

  4. This is SUCH fun. You will laugh, you will feel things, you will grow very attached to these dwarves and their mountain. Go on this journey with them – you won’t regret it!

  5. Such an entertaining show, well written fun, great beards, fun flashlight work. Loved the bits where they reacted to the narrator and picked on Ian. Great fun!!

  6. This is one of those shows that just nails it. They know exactly what they are doing and do it well. It’s funny, safe for your grandma or kids, and just short enough to sneak into any open time slot.

The show may be a love letter to fantasy stories and games, but you don’t need to be a diehard nerd to thoroughly enjoy it or laugh along with the leads. The actors bring a great, bordering on slapstick physicality to it and the energy level is non-stop from start to end.

  7. Fun little adventure story in a Vaguely Celtic Fantasy World (TM) with good amount of laughs and drama in equal doses. Really lovely dwarf costumes and puppets. The flashlight portion is a clever conceit that allowed for a bit of audience engagement and some improv moments, but I wonder if the play could’ve incorporated this participation more into the story itself…

  8. A delightful clown tale performed with mirth and magic! Flash lighting and other reactive audience moments were smart, gentle moves keeping us engaged in the downs and ups of the story
