Public displays of affection! Mass shootings! Drugs, deities – it’s the first day of class, and Prof. G. explains why you can’t send naughty photos to your classmates and why it’s important to out-run the criminology students. In this original one-act performance, you’re a student again, and Prof. G presents his survival guide for community college. A dark, insightful comedy.
A dark comedy about social interaction, education, mass media and why it’s important to sit next to someone who is sexually unattractive to you – your future may depend on it.
The Syllabus is a great show! Makes you really want to take this course.
The delivery brings you back to your first days as a university or college student. The prof walks you through the syllabus and includes some thought provoking elements of media study.
I highly recommend this performance!
The Syllabus is an interactive satire of the adjunctification of higher education through the ways increasingly onerous terms and conditions in syllabi cover liability in some ways while leaving open room for corruption and abuse in others. Michael Gougis commands the stage with a caricaturized version of his real life day job and does very well encouraging and fielding audience questions and comments, while also incorporating enough actual media theory that you might learn something about how advertising and stereotypes work.
