Now THIS is how you do self-confessional solo storytelling! What a treat. Great comedy is often rooted in pain, and only works when you’ve learned something or grown beyond that pain. She’s absolutely triumphant in her fight and though we go a lot of places, she never strays from the point(s). Joyful, unapologetic, dangerous, hilarious and confident with hints of vulnerability. All are invited in…but guys, cross your damn legs!
She had me at “Balls!” Which is a brilliant first line.
Tragedy plus time equals comedy, so we’ve been told. The same can be true for trauma plus time, but it’s a tough line to walk! Alex Dallas does this PERFECTLY, absolutely crushing the audience with a revelation one moment and then guiding them along to raucous laughter the next. She is an absolute talent, and her characterization of each different character in ‘Horseface’ is impressive. With a razor-sharp wit, honesty, and openness, Alex invites the audience in to a reality that many of the audience knows too well. It is never alienating, instead, she radiates joy. By the end of it you’ll only be sad that it’s over so soon!
This performer absolutely sparkles. The show was incredibly well written and performed. Her story is vulnerable and her presence is absolutely inspiring. Definitely recommend!
For such a vulnerable thing as it is to step onto a stage alone to tell your story, Alex Dallas nails it.
From the second she walks out onto the stage, she commands it and draws in with a powerhouse performance of anger, laughter, and meaning ~ flawlessly delivering a snapshot of the joys of being a young girl in the world, and the need for grown men to do better.
Come see her shine. ☆
Alex, this is a beautiful show. I found myself startled into recognition so many, many times. A master telling of the personal female experience that will resonate with so many other women, and men as well. I agree with the first comment, this is indeed the way to make a ‘confessional’ narrative universal.
An amazing show. We loved it. Wonderful storytelling, with perfect comedic timing alongside serious subject matter. So well done! Alex is so talented – we were riveted from start to finish.
