Are they geese? Are they gay? Are they activists fighting the Man? They certainly are all of that and more. This fun show features snappy dialogue, lots of action, and some optional audience participation as our gaggle of gay geese gather at the club to dance and make out, if only the cops would leave them alone.
It’s a treat from beginning to end!
The Lighter Touch is back at it again with another wacky and silly bird-themed show as an allegory for queer struggles. Gander Euphoria touches on serious topics regarding queer resistance, but in a way that will having you roaring, ahem I mean honking, with laughter. Optional audience participation will have you saying “heck yeah, I love being part of the queer community!” So fly don’t walk to the next show so you can not only touch grass, but eat it too.
Gander Euphoria is a vibrant, joyous experience, oozing with charm, wit, and wonder. They took subject matter that fills me with a seething rage and made it into something beautiful. I wish every show I see could do this. 10/10, no notes. An absolute must see at this year’s Fringe.
Gander Euphoria was a delight! This right here is what I love about Fringe!! This show is zany, eclectic and relatable. I appreciated the tips on protesting and, of course, who doesn’t appreciate a little Ottawa-specific humour?! The cop absolutely stole the show and their bits and monologue were by far my favourite parts of the show.
I must say that despite really enjoying it overall, I do feel it was slightly disjointed and I am left with some questions and a desire to have seen them dig a little deeper overall and bring a little more polish. Playing to a queer audience who is already on the side of the protagonists means that we don’t need our hands held as much throughout the play in learning about queer rhetoric, and that time could have been used to flesh out the characters a little more (I wanted to know more about Goosestav’s story) or taken some of the jokes and really fleshed them out into longer bits which I think would have had more impact. I would have reaaally loved to have seen more physical clown comedy relating to them being geese. I have to admit to being confused as to why they were geese at all other than it being a sequel to Sexy Pigeon; I would have liked that explained a little more. I felt A Sexy Pigeon was a little more refined in concept and execution. Merch is fantastic, btw!! Pick up a hand-painted thrifted shirt!! Honk honk!
THIS SHOW WAS PHENOMENAL!!! Congratulations and thank you for putting on such an amazing show for our Ottawa LGBTQIA+ community. As always, I loved the optional audience participation! I laughed so much and and learned quite a bit and had such an amazing time!!!
Part chaotic pantomime, part queer history presentation Gander Euphoria fully delivers on the promise of its title. The performers are effortlessly charismatic and so delighted to see the audience that it cannot help but be mutual. Snappy, earnest, and a damn fun time. This show is well worth taking a gander at! (I’m sorry I had to do at least one)
Great job to
