Caught the opening night. ECPD is exactly what I love at Fringe – a full show with set, costumes, multiple actors, great practical effects and theatricality. Dead Unicorn Ink is setting a name for themselves for producing high quality work, and this one is no exception.
Dead Unicorn Ink has done it again! ECPD is such a fun show that is thoughtfully created and wonderfully performed. A smokey stage set the scene for this cop drama take on the classic Hamlet. A small cast of powerhouse performers bring the dialogue to life until life is no longer in the cards! I especially loved the weaving in of the puppets, props and special effects (queue rain). This show is a must on your Fringe list if you like comedy, drama, cop procedurals, Shakespeare, puppets, great music and even somersaults!
ECPD is an incredibly fun show to watch. The mix of Hamlet with an old style cop drama and puppets makes for some hilarious moments along with suspenseful drama. Absolutely a worthwhile show to see.
The show was amazing! Must see of this Fringe season! A brand new take on Hamlet!
Puppets, shakespeare, crime procedurals, this show has it all! Such funny writing and over the top performances, so many gags and references for the hard core theatre kids and fantastic soundtrack. Must see fringe fun!!
ECPD is a very good fringe show! All of the puppets in it are very well made! It’s a lot of an emotional roller coaster because one minute you will laugh at the actors doing something really funny and the next they are depressed. It’s a well made show and everyone should come to see it because it’s awesome!
GO SEE THIS SHOW!!!! So much better than I remember Hamlet was in high school – A brilliant witty and funny. The puppetry is so effective and the acting is wonderful. Patrice the playwright knows how to capture Shakespeare art and bring it to life in a way that is accessible without dumbing it down, but making the bard happy.
Nefarious hilarity and puppet bloodbath ensues in this gritty new genre-collider from Dead Unicorn Ink.
When a mysterious murder-most-foul rots the state of Denmark, only total-dick Mark Hamlet and the brave players and puppets of the ECPD (Elsinore Castle Police Department) can solve the case.
A film-noir of Bardic proportions, methodically peppered with rhyming measures that pay homage to its origins in Billy Shakes (an emerging staple of DUI shows, of which I have zero complaints about), these bloody scenes of outrageous fortune are punctuated further by songs straight out of the emo-pop hit list of the early-2000s, that show one diehard millennial as I may smile and be a villain.
Though this be madness, yet there is melodrama in it! In this, the entire ensemble delight in their roles, making the audience gasp and laugh alike.
Puppet-guts, explosions, betrayal, wacky-flailing-arm-inflatable-tube-superiors, lip-synching, and more!
In one smoking-gun hour upon the stage, DUI proves indeed that brevity is the soul of grit.
