A Victorian seance gone awry.
Part comedy, part scare, this 60-minute show created and performed by these ‘hilarious hosts’ (Common Ground Arts, Edmonton) is sure to deliver you a spine-tinglingly silly spirit-filled story.
Two Victorian spiritualist sisters invite you to a seance. But what happens when someone tries to expose their act as a sham just as the spirits make their first move? Comedians Carly Anna Billings (The Second City Toronto) & Cecilia O’Grady will take you back in time as the Wolf Sisters, two founders of American Spiritualism on the road, sharing their gifts of spirit and sisterhood when everything goes sideways. Part comedy, part scare, these “hilarious hosts” (Common Ground Arts, Edmonton) are sure to deliver you a spine-tinglingly silly spirit-filled story. (uOttawa alumni, Carly and Cecilia are ecstatic to premiere this work in a city they loved calling home!)
Really lovely show. Original concept, and funny. Well acted at an impressively energetic pace. Sometimes it drifted a bit, and I believe the show I saw had some technical – or perhaps spiritual – difficulties (they can be so difficult to control), but a very entertaining performance.
I came for a comedy about spiritualism, and stayed for an emotional and strongly acted drama about sisterhood. I was also impressed by the verisimilitude of the seance show, which I think must have come from the research the actors have done as paranormal podcasters.
What a fun show. This was really enjoyable, I recommend it.
Thoroughly entertaining! I wasn’t positive about the ending (no spoilers, just that one sister makes a choice I was kind of confused by), but the journey to get there was a delight. There are some perfectly-timed technical elements that genuinely made me gasp, and the two actors play off each other seamlessly.
Really snappily written, and charmingly performed; this was an unexpected gem. The titular Wolf Sisters are a delight to watch (who doesn’t love a good huckster?) but it is their strained personal and professional relationship that really kept everything grounded and human. Well worth a watch!
A wonderfully performed dramedy about family and destiny, with fun touches of history and the supernatural. I’m still thinking about the unsettling ending two days later.
This show had me shaking with laughter and thrills of what’s would come next the medium Wolf sisters… if you like a bit of family drama, dysfunction and ghosts then this is the show for you!
