Ottawa Fringe is looking for Ottawa-based playwrights to participate in an eight-week Playwright’s Unit, beginning in May 2020. Participants will develop their scripts-in-progress in a supportive environment, led by Festival Director Patrick Gauthier and Associate Festival Director Brit Johnston.

Meetings will be held weekly, via Zoom. We will accept applications from individuals and writing teams. A maximum of six projects will be selected for participation.

Participation in the unit is free, but you are expected to attend all group meetings, held 7:00-9:00 pm, on the following dates:

May 6th: Meeting #1
May 13th: Meeting #2
May 20th: Meeting #3
May 27th: Meeting #4
June 3rd: Meeting #5
June 10th: Meeting #6

How to apply

We’re trying to keep the process as simple as possible. Anyone interested in participating will be asked for the following:

  • Contact info
  • Info about your proposed project: title, development history
  • Statement of intent: what is your artistic process? what are your goals for the work? what are your expectations for the unit?  (500 words, max)
  • Writing sample: this can be the project you intend to develop as part of the Unit, or past work; we will also accept non-theatre writing (10-15 pages, max)
