A maritime tale of madness. A stubborn man vs an angry ocean. A clownesque, physical comedy about a lighthouse keeper who loses his shoe.

I selected mature language because I say ‘piece of shit’ once in the show. I selected audience interaction because I invite an audience member onto the stage once, I talk to audience members occasionally, and I go into the aisles once during the show.

  1. Okay. This is an absolute MUST-SEE. I don’t remember the last time I laughed so hard… The physical comedy and acting is absolutely top notch and had me in stitches from start to stop. Truly, I never wanted the play to end and I’ll be going back to see it at least once more. The Lighthouse Keeper could easily have been a one-note character, but what really blew me away was how expertly the acting and story made us care for and root for him. The costuming and staging was excellent, and hats-off to Joel on lighting and sound because that is really what brought the piece to life. The audience participation elements are perfectly balanced and never went on for too long or lost their purpose. This show will have you shaking your fist on a dark and stormy night screaming « OOOOCEAN! » into the void for sure!

  2. After such a fantastic performance on Preview Night, I went to see The Wickie on opening night and it was an ABSOLUTE BLAST! My cheeks were hurting from how much I was laughing. The expertly executed physical comedy plus the writing made for a fun, compelling story where you truly felt personally connected to the Lighthouse Keeper and the journey to find his lost left shoe. I cannot recommend this show enough! Also the homemade jewellery/merch is super adorable :)

  3. Wow, this show had me absolutely gut-busting laughing! Truly stellar embodiment of the character and use of physical comedy. The crowd interactions were hilarious and the tech/props usage were top notch. The echololia in me is gonna have me saying OOO-shun for awhile I’m sure.

  4. I saw The Wickie on a whim and it was a great reminder of why you should take chances on Fringe shows. This has a lot of fun clown work, and the audience members are well taken care of in the interactive sections. What really stood out for me, though, was the staging — highly creative use of space, sound and lighting to enhance the storytelling. Recommended, and adding the creator to my list of artists to watch for at future Fringes!

  5. I was captivated from the first second.
Through an artful use of physicality, lighting, audience participation, and vocal prowess, The Wickie sucks us into his world of ridiculous despair and ultimate triumph (??? You decide!) of human vs. the sea.
