Fringe Lookahead: Tuesday, June 25
How about that heat? I’m speaking, of course, not about the temperature (our venues are air conditioned, lucky for all of us. I was actually a bit chilly in the Arts Court Library last night) but about the record breaking weekend at the Fringe. More than 5000 people attended the Fringe on opening weekend, making it the best attended in our 16 year history. And remember: every dollar spent on tickets goes right back to the artists.
WHAT’S HOT
I was at three shows yesterday (three!) all of which were PACKED: a sold-out Sappho…in 9 Fragments, a bursting at the seams Die, Zombie. Die!, and a super-full-it-ay-have-been-sold-out-but-either-way-there-weren’t-many-seats-available We Glow. Shows I didn’t attend, but that many many many others did, include: an over-sold Red Bastard (I’ve heard nothing but good things about it), another sold-out Bureau of Bat Shit Crazy (we had to add seats in Studio Léonard-Beaulne because they’ve been selling so many tickets), and Under the Mango Tree continues to draw big as well:
9:00pm and it’s a mad rush for Under The Mango Tree tickets at Studio Leonard-Beaulne. #ottfringe — Andrew (@yoozeo) June 25, 2013
THE COURTYARD
Did you hear? Team Volunteer came home with the gold a the Fringe-O-Lympics! Proving once again that volunteers are what makes this festival run. Well done! Tonight is TEEN ANGST starting at 9:00 pm. Come on down to hear readings from old journals, poems, and essays you wrote as a teenager. It’s followed up by DJ Ashley Proulx, playing until the by-law officers force us to turn the music off.
PAT’S PICKS
As you’ve probably heard, the run of Be a Man has been cancelled after one of the show’s performers was in an accidient. Luckily, he’s well on the road to recovery. Unluckily, cancelling the entire run of a show can have deep financial implications.
However, Cameryn Moore (Slut (R)evolution), Jeff Leard (The Show Must Go On) and Chase Padgett (6 Guitars) have rallied together to make the rest of Be A Man performances benefit performances. Each performer is curating a night of storytelling with a specific theme:
Tuesday, June 25 at 11pm: Cameron’s Smut Slam: Tales from the Sexual Bucket List
Saturday, June 29 at 4pm: Jeff Leard’s Catastrophe Canyon: Tales of Sudden Calamity
Sunday, June 30 2:30pm: Chase Padgett’s Altered States: Stories of Intoxication
Proceeds of each performance will be given to the Be A Man team to help recoup the costs of their unfortunate cancellation. All performances are cash-sales only, and will be held in Arts Court Theatre.
Happy Tuesday everyone!
