I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of material in “The Royal Flush”. There was quite a lot of story centered around the family and their deceased dad’s cabin, with a snaking twisting plot that has a good ending.
The set was quite good, with an amazing amount of stuff on stage (including a 1970s soup making pot my mom has, and all the cabin stuff that just accumulates). Neat trick of sleeping bags used vertically.
It was nice and understandable – good voices from the actors and maybe the set absorbed some of the room’s echo. Helps with following the large amount of things that happen. Even the hair styles fit well with the character personalities.
So, good production, interesting story, very Canadian.
I saw the first show, which ran 65 minutes.
An engaging short drama-comedy romp about misunderstandings and misdirections – some deliberate some not so much, and about reconciliations of one kind and another that can happen when grown-ups are forced by circumstance to reconsider their remembrances of persons in their past . Every one has a secret, trust is a thin veneer, love is unreliable. A hidden treasure powers the plot. Neat resolution exits for all five characters and the not-so-dear dead old dad. Just enough of the universal Cracks in perception to ruminate on later. Feel good Fun.
What a fun play! I’ve been going to the Fringe for years and it’s always such a treat to stumble across a clever comedy. Highly recommended.
the royal flush is an outstanding play that i think is extremely funny and creative it has so many parts to it
Laugh out loud funny.
This play was fun to watch, the actors were great, I liked the imaginative use of the space on the stage.Bravo!
A must see comedy, creative, funny, great actors and excellent story line!!! Don’t miss out, you will enjoy the story, set and convenient location! We really enjoyed the Canadian content too. Congrats to the talented cast, writer, director and crew.
A fun drama-comedy set in a wintery cabin for the reunion of two sisters, an old family cottage friend and surprise “lovers”. They are cooped up together in the tiny cabin all with hidden agendas. We laughed out loud as their true colours are revealed in plot twists and zaniness that the cast pulled off beautifully. We enjoyed their work very much – it’s fun.
