After a lifetime of being taken for granted, dJerald the Djinn discovers the joy of being magical for their community and themselves. With help from their human and puppet friends, and maybe even you, dJerald unretires to fulfill an impossible wish – stealing World Peace from the oligarchs. This satirical, self-reflective caper comedy is the fourth production for Velvet Duke Productions.

As someone who grew up watching Sesame Street, I’ll always have a soft spot for puppets of all kinds. Puppets taught me the essentials: how to count, how to read, and who the people in my neighborhood are. Thanks to Velvet Wells and their show, (Re)Tired Magical Black Man, puppets have now taught me how to nurture community care and overthrow an oligarchy.
As a Black woman, I particularly loved that the cast included puppets of colour. This wonderful, imaginative heist takes complex subjects and challenging truths about our society and makes the content accessible in every way. It is a gift to watch and this performance also gives us — the audience — a gift: hope for the future. Don’t miss your chance to watch this!

Three things that I loved about Velvet’s Fringe show was the creativity, the representation and how he Interacted and included the audience. I am really glad that I made time to see it. I didn’t know what to expect but it really blew my mind.

A lovely show, with the best use of audio description that I’ve seen live. They are vital rather than feeling like optional extras, and are used to draw you in to what would otherwise be transitional non-moments
