Wonderful performances from Laura Hall, John Koensgen and James Richardson! In one scene in particular the casual, creeping menace of a character situates you in an unknown interrogation that could be in the here and now of – pick a country – say, Syria. The switch to a comic tone was much appreciated in a classic Pinter scene of missed and missing communication. Unsure about “several scenes from Party Time” being ‘stirred into the stew”. Pinter’s work is so precise and precisely crafted it seems fair to let him do the writing, and let the actors focus on what they do best. But if you’re wondering if the Fringe is the place for more serious and thoughtful fare, this Pinter proves admirably entertaining.
