Magnificence is the tenth original monologue by Montreal born, Keir Cutler, and his tenth appearance at the Ottawa Fringe Festival. This new work is based on Keir’s relationship with his late mother, May Ebbitt Cutler, former mayor of Westmount, founder of Tundra Books and the author of the award-winning, highly-praised memoir, I Once Knew An Indian Woman. A book that had a great effect on Keir as a child. The New York Times reviewed her book in 1973 stating, “Simplicity isn’t easy to find any more and neither is goodness. In this story they are stunningly exemplified.” The work will be directed by the award-winning, Paul Van Dyck.
Keir Cutler (playwright and performer) has been performing his solo shows across Canada, the US, and UK since 1999. He is best known for his award-winning Teaching Shakespeare and his adaptation of Mark Twain’s Is Shakespeare Dead? He has been called “gloriously funny,” (Orlando Sentinel), “one hell of a storyteller!” (Vue Weekly, Edmonton), and “a masterful entertainer,” (Winnipeg Free Press). Keir is a playwriting graduate of the National Theatre School, McGill University and has a PhD in theatre from Wayne State University in Detroit. Four of his solo shows have been broadcasted on television by BRAVO!/CANADA.
Paul Van Dyck (director) is a writer, director, and performer based in Montreal and Southern California. In 2001, Paul founded Rabbit in a Hat Productions with a mandate to produce new Canadian theatre. His work has since been produced throughout Canada and around the world.
