  1. This show is not at all what I expected, in all the best of ways.

A musical at Fringe is a big swing, betting on talent overcoming the heap of problems that can come with a limited time in a rehearsal space, changing environment, budget, and more. Unexpected Theatre really made it work thanks to fantastic singing from the whole cast and songs that I wanted to listen to cast recordings of on the way home (how can we make this happen, Unexpected Theatre?).

Particular shout-outs to the songs written by Malia Rogers and Micah Jondel DeShazer, and to Kay Sinclaire, whose Sam was poignant, emotional, and really connected with the Tuesday audience.

See this play here – you’ll want to tell the story when you go see it at the NAC in a few years.

  2. Some unfortunate mic issues aside, this was great! The harmonies and lyrics were nice and the cast had great chemistry. Looking forward to act 2!

  3. I Wanna Be Like a Tree will stay stuck in your head for days to come and you’ll be thankful for it.

  4. There’s something about a character-based piece of work that is difficult to execute well. Perhaps it’s having captivating characters, or else a keen sense of plot. Trainwreck excelled in creating a sense of suspense and a connection to the characters that left me completely touched by their story. The character of Amari was particularly well crafted, and the character of Sam as Kay Sinclaire was especially well executed.

  5. I’m glad I saw this play. Musicals in small venues can be difficult but these people did it.

The actors and song writers should be especially proud, and I hope one day I can listen to this music again.

  6. Trainwreck was engaging, emotional, and relevant. The cast has great chemistry and is full of talent. The songs were catchy and well-written. A must-see!!

  7. Trainwreck was an emblem of young feelings with a touch of magic through some dark times.

For such a short production, it was a full and uplifting picture of storytelling that will take you to another place and into the stories of other people… and leave you wanting more.
A remarkably enchanting, dark and twisting, lovely and haunting diamond of a show.
